LOCKSS
Open Journal System supports the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system to ensure a secure and permanent journal archive. LOCKSS is open-source software developed at Stanford University Libraries that enables libraries to preserve selected web journals by regularly polling registered journal websites for newly published content and archiving it. Each archive is continuously validated against other library caches, and if content is found to be corrupted or missing, other caches or journals are used to recover it.
Setting up LOCKSS support for OJS is not necessary until after publication is fully underway, at which time follow these two steps:
Identify 6-10 libraries that will register and archive the journal. For example, contact institutions where editors or Board members work and/or institutions that already participate in LOCKSS (see LOCKSS).
CLOCKSS
OJS also supports the CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system to ensure a secure and permanent journal archive. CLOCKSS is based on the open-source LOCKSS software developed at Stanford University Libraries, which enables libraries to preserve selected web journals by regularly polling registered journal websites for newly published content and archiving it. Each archive is continuously validated against other library caches, and if content is found to be corrupted or missing, other caches or journals are used to recover it. Setting up CLOCKSS support for the Open Journal System is not necessary until publishing is complete.
